Metro World Child is offering children’s church services for at-risk children in many large cities worldwide. In the Philippines, the organization is active since 2001 and through collaboration with local churches, around 20,000 kids are reached every week. In autumn 2017, Martin and Christina Stein from Dresden joined their team. Martin is employed by our organization Begegnung e.V. and Christina works as a volunteer.

“Playing games and telling the kids about Jesus” – that’s what Sidewalk Sunday School is all about.

The fun part consists of games, songs and a lot of action. Every week, there’s a different theme, e.g. Star Wars, basketball or “boys against girls”. The gospel is always shared through children’s worship songs with dance or even rapping.

Afterwards, there’s a well established transition with rules for sitting still and listening, followed by a teaching piece. Every week, there’s one main point, e.g. God is the Creator, you can trust Him. In four short units, that main point is made clear through objects, acting and giving multiple examples. The closing prayer follows that same theme: Trusting God.

After the program, each child is provided with a free meal. Especially for the children living in slums, this is very important.
